HEY EVERYONE!! Soo... I had been seeing this blog button about SHARE WHATCHA WEARIN and I couldn't help myself! I love the idea of sharing our teacher clothes, because I love to get new ideas as well as some constructive feedback! :) It's funny when you get kids' opinions but its even more awesome when other teachers comment! So This is the GLAM CAM session of the week!

I linked up with Keepin it Kool in Kinderland and now I'm sharing it with you!!

I may not have many glamorous outfits during the week, however I would love to share what I have!

Pay It Forward

"We leave a legacy by making a POWERFUL and POSITIVE difference in people's lives." - Charlie Ragus
We as teachers do this each year. Rather than helping 3 we help 20 +. We pour knowledge and wisdom into these growing minds in hopes that they will take this experience and share it. Become better people in society... and help one another.
Continue to help others, despite what others may think or say.
REACH FOR GREATNESS!! BE A GAME CHANGER!!

Fruit Infused Water

Good Morning!! Hope everyone is relaxing Saturday.
I know I usually share school stuff, however I want to share a drink idea today.

I am really big into health and lately I have been looking into alternatives to fruit juices. (Because I LOVE them!.. and they're soooo bad!) So I heard of this idea to fruit infuse water, and I tried It.  It really was delicious!!

Recipe:
* 1 grapefruit
* 1 lemon
* 3 mint leaves

Instructions:
Slice fruit
Squeeze juice into jar
Add mint
Fill remainder of jar with water(after all fruit juice has been squeezed)
Let chill overnight and serve

Quick thought regarding the fruit water, is that they're great for kids!! If the juice is homemade, we know what's in it! Over the years, Ive had a few parents ask me what I could suggest for their "hyper" kids, in hopes not to put them on medication.  This maybe a suggestion... no processed sugars, its all natural, and tastes great!

Thank you for reading!! Have a happy Saturday!!

How about that Fraction Action!! :)

We have been making some FRACTION ACTION  this week in B115!! Reviewing what was learned earlier this year, and adding on some more information. This week, we learned how to compare fractions using pictures, number lines and cross multiplication.

Human Number Line

I have seen this done many different ways, and today we constructed it using fraction cards, that had both pictures and numbers. The students were given fraction cards, and without talking the students and the other classmates have to help them arrange them in the correct order.

This is so much fun for the students and me, and one great thing is they are facilitating! I love when kids reach out and do the thinking and I get to watch! :)

Fraction Sort

Another great activity that we did today was we sorted fractions using the 1/2 as a benchmark. Throughout the week I have noticed that when comparing, the students are unable to see which fractions are greater without having a picture. One thing I wanted to do in order to increase their reasoning skills is to be able to identify the 1/2 in a fraction. (For example: 4/8 , 3/6 , and 2/4 are all equivalent to 1/2)
Students Sort their fraction cards

Sooo... what we did was I passed out a fraction to each kid. We all wadded it up like a paper ball, and they had a "silent snowball" toss.(They tossed it to the other side of the room, simulating a snowball fight, without noise) -- knowing my kiddos, we had a few snickers :-p!  The point of this was to mix up the fractions, the students then either caught a fraction or grabbed one off the floor and we all sorted them into 3 categories, less than 1/2, greater than 1/2 or equal to 1/2.

This was a FUN and quick activity and it helped them to see that if you can find half, you can use your reasoning skills to find a reasonable answer!!

Cross multiplication

I am CERTAIN that teachers have many different ways of teaching cross multiplication, however I am eager to share this one method. I LOVE the butterfly method. I showed it to my kids and the concept stuck! Although they are still cross multiplying like normal, they have an easy way to remember it.

 "MULTIPLY LIKE A BUTTERFLY!"

Once you circle the numbers in order to multiply, it makes a shape that, to me, resembles a butterfly if you add antenna! :) I attached my anchor chart so you can see what I mean.

CRUSH the STAAR!

It's that time of year again! I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK to all our STAAR administrators and students taking the STAAR test tomorrow! I know everyone has been working so hard this past year and I am so excited to see all the good things these students have learned.

Today we took some time out with our kiddos to celebrate the great things to come! CRUSH THE STAAR! :)

Praying for all of us!
